Real Talk: China

By Eric Zanzucchi (@ericzanzucchi)

This morning China landed their first jet on an aircraft carrier. I was shocked to learn that China was getting their first aircraft carrier operational. We are consistently brainwashed to believe that China is our greatest rival. It’s only a matter of time before China overtakes us as the number one country in the world. But landing a jet on an aircraft carrier is a feat that America achieved almost 100 years ago.

I’m not saying that China doesn’t have amazing potential, but their standard of living is subpar compared to that of whitey and apparently by our standards their military is just getting off the ground. Are some people just so used to Cold War mentality that we need an enemy? (After all, Red Dawn is being released this month with Asians as the invaders of America.)

But even if China rises over the next few decades to rival America, there’s still no beef. The U.S.S.R. and America squabbled militarily (albeit passive aggressively) in Turkey, Cuba, Vietnam, and Korea. What are China and America going to squabble over other than bragging rights?

Besides I need to get back to my white guy problems. My football game was blacked out today so I had stream the game online. The screen was smaller, it was horrible. I’m still grief stricken over that.
