With the Republican National Convention delayed the news cycle needs a story. “I’ve got a great idea. Let’s blow this Tropical Storm Isaac thing way out of proportion”, says the TV executive with a huge salary.
It’s a little frustrating to me that this comparison is being made so strongly. There’s really no comparison. They’re both going to hit New Orleans. Statistically hurricanes are going to continue to hit New Orleans.
Isaac is supposed to hit on the 7th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina. Are they implying there’s some sort of fate to this statistical anomaly?
Hurricane Katrina was a Category 5. That’s like a storm on steroids. Winds for these storms are 157 mph and above. Tropical Storm Isaac is projected to be a Category 1 when it makes landfall. Winds for those average 75 mph. Also let’s not forget that the city is way better prepared for a hurricane after these seven years.
I get that the news cycle is slow today. Where’s a politician with a gay slur when you need one?
